A new radar-based vehicle speed awareness system is now up and running
in Papakura.
Funded by Papakura District Council and installed at six key locations
throughout the district, the cameras read the speed of oncoming traffic
and flash up a visual warning – either the speed of the vehicle or, if
the speed is in excess of the limit for the area, a message to slow
down.
The new speed display signs
are all at or in the vicinity of schools in the district, helping to
raise awareness among motorists. They are on the approach to Ardmore
School, at the speed “black spot” on Walters Road, and will also be
installed on Manuroa Road, Cosgrave Road, Opaheke Road and on Great
South Road at Drury.
The project was instigated
and followed through by Papakura District Council road safety staff.
Above, Papakura District
Council Road Safety Officer Donna Dick, PDC Roading Engineer Alan Peddie
and 3M’s Alan Parker monitor traffic behaviour outside Ardmore School as
the advisory sign is brought on-line.
