Inorganic Collection

The Auckland Council holds an annual Inorganic Rubbish Collection for household inorganic refuse from Papakura residents only.

The Papakura Inorganic Collection will start from 25 July 2011. It will be completed by 26 August 2011.

Papakura residents will receive an inorganic rubbish collection brochure in their letterboxes three to five days before the collection is due to start in their area.

The leaflet will let residents know when they can place rubbish out on the kerbside, and what can and cannot be placed out for collection.

Residents are advised to wait for their notification brochure, before putting their inorganic rubbish out.

For any other queries, phone the inorganic hotline on 296 2610.

What is an Inorganic Refuse Collection?

An inorganic refuse collection is where the Council collects broken furniture, appliances, carpet, bikes etc that have come from private homes. Any metals and tyres are recycled and the remainder is disposed of to a landfill. Items must be able to be lifted by two people. Fridges and ovens should have doors removed for safety reasons. Also any child car seats or bike helmets that are being disposed of because they have been in a crash should be cut up or disabled so that they cannot be scavenged for re-use.

Who can put rubbish out in the Inorganic Collection?

Residents of Papakura District are the only people entitled to participate in the collection. They may only place inorganic rubbish out on the frontage of the property in Papakura District that they live in. People who are not entitled to participate in the collection are illegally dumping rubbish will be fined between $400 and $20,000. This includes commercial rubbish.

Where do I put my rubbish?

You should place your inorganic rubbish neatly on the kerb during the weekend prior to your collection.

How often does it happen?

The Inorganic Collection occurs once a year in winter.

Unwanted items in good condition

Council has a policy to encourage re-use. Items in good condition can be donated to genuine charities though www.donatenz.com.
